In fact, it’s something so common, I’ve even done it myself on occasion.
You see, every afternoon, I break from work right around 2PM and relax with a nice, hour-long lunch...
This way, my mind and body will be alert and ready to finish the day, making sure everything runs smooth here at the Prostavol offices.
And having such a busy schedule, I try to prepare a few days’ worth of grilled chicken and ground turkey and pair them with sides like sweet potato fries or salt-free black beans.
This way, there’s no extra time spent leaving the office to grab something and then hurrying back and rushing through a meal.
Well, a few weeks back, I was a little hungrier than usual.
So, I decided I’d add an extra scoop of chicken and an extra scoop of ground turkey into my lunch.
And once I was done, I felt stuffed, like I was at a summer BBQ.
Not the best way to go into the 2nd half of your day.
And one of the biggest reasons why I felt so stuffed...is that I wasn’t using portion control.
Portion control is the act of not only knowing the proper serving size of your foods, but also knowing how much of that serving YOU actually need to be well fed.
It’s the key to being healthy and productive all day long, and a major part of maintaining a healthy weight.
So today, I wanted to give you 4 simple tips on how to keep your portions in check, avoid that sluggish, lethargic post-lunch slump...
...and help keep the pounds off in the process.

If you’ve been trying to “ballpark” your food portions and you’re not sure if you’ve been doing it right — try comparing your food to some well-known objects.
For example, three ounces of cooked meat, fish, or poultry is about the size of a deck of cards.
Other measurements that would be easy for you to eyeball include:
•½ cup is the size of an ice cream scoop
•1 cup is the size of a tennis ball
•1 ounce of cheese is the size of a domino
Try using smaller plates, bowls, cups, and glassware than what’s currently in your kitchen.
You might find that swapping out a bowl that held 16 ounces of food for an 8-ounce bowl satisfies your craving just the same.
The next time you and a friend or loved one decide to eat out, order one dish and ask for two plates.
This way, you both get the benefits of portion control AND you’ll save a few bucks at the same time.
Bonus tip: If you’re eating a salad, ask for the dressing on the side. Dip your fork into the dressing and then into the salad. You’ll get all the flavor and a huge reduction in calories.
This might seem like the simplest of the tips, but it might be the most effective — eat only when you’re hungry and stop when you’re satisfied or comfortably full.
Think of it like this, when you feel like your 80 percent full, stop there.
And if you’re worried that “80 percent” wasn’t enough food, don’t fret...there’ll be more food waiting for you at your next meal!
It’s not uncommon to put too much onto your plate…
But luckily, by using these 4 simple tips, you can give your weight management and your prostate health the support they deserve at every meal.
As for me, I’m still eating my 2PM lunches...
But nowadays, I always make sure that my portions are properly measured — so I can stay focused and ready to go all day long.
